It's Throwback Time

Supposed to do this every friday in line with the pbleepd blog but I got caught up in listening to foxxhole radio (best radio show ever, too highlarious!) and didnt get back in til 3. Today I had to bring a song/video that never gets old. R'n'B at it's very best and I DARE someone not to feel it. Donnell Jones is highly underrated and its too bad (or maybe good) that he hasnt blown and doesnt get the props he deserves. When this track came out I remember I was doing my SATs exams in secondary school and every day while I "studied" I made sure this was on the playlist. I'd go far to say it's my favourite ever track off my favourite ever album. Enjoy!

Friends & Associates (Thought of the Day)

Had a brief but detailed conversation with another friend (ironically) about the dilemmas of having a friend and an associate. The term "friend" is arguably and subjectively thrown around easily without really thinking about the defintion or the context of it. I myself (like most of you Im sure) use the term friend for everybody but are we using the terminology correctly?

Life's lessons suggest that we dont have too many friends as most people would class a friend as someone who'd have their back whenever, wherever, whatever...even go as far as taking a bullet for them (Yep that would then wipe out 98% of your so called "friends") But could we be comfortable in calling the non 50-centers an associate? I know I couldnt. However it could be said that we'd be lying to them because social rules tell us to, but I say f*** that. Even the hollowest of thinkers would relate to one of the definitons of friends which states....

Friend - "Used as a polite form of address"

My personal opinion is that the term associate is too negative to use and that as long as I acknowledge AND respect you and we have a levelly understanding of one another through a substantial amount of meaningful dialogue then you can be classed as a friend.

Friend - "A person with whom one enjoys mutual affection or regard"

Of course there's levels of friendships. Im not stupid now. I have friends and then I have friends. Friends and close friends if you will. I just cant use the term "associate" for people who I dont speak to as much as a close friend, its disrespectful. An associate is a quiet workmate, that dude who always serves you double sausage and egg mcmuffins at mcdonalds, a useless father, someone you dont like but have to speak to, your dissertation tutor or that person you stepover to get to the top (kiddin..kinda). That's an associate!

Mish-Mash #2

I'm a big fan of Kanye from his production to his innovation but there has to be a line that's drawn. Now each is to their own style no doubt but how can you tell me that the pic below is "forward fashion"?. I refuse to believe it!!! Sometimes I feel like just because an artist does something, people automatically think it's right, cool, chic, in-style etc. Thats a lie!!! Now I will expect to see alot more people dress like this which is fine if they like it but I for one can tell you that those guys below look like out of work Power Rangers.

IT'S MORPHIN TIME!!!

I have a feeling this is more of a DVD typa film but it looks pretty decent, I wanna see Next Day Air. Mainly because I need a laugh and another glimpse of Lauren London. Too fine!

If anyone can find me Marc Dorsey's "Crave" album or a source to it, please let me know, I need a track off it for a short film I'm doing. I lost it a couple years back when the family moved houses, and it's nowhere to be found! It would be easy to just get it off Ebay or Amazon but I honestly cant be asked to lol.

Update on short film: ok so now we're in the process of doing prices and locations. I need to do another casting call too, it should be done hopefully in time for summer film festivals so stay tuned and keep supporting. POUND 4 POUND coming this summer be ready.
I'm off to listen to Speedy's Comedy Corner, Be Easy!

Has gym become the new fashion statement? I dont know how it is overseas but in the UK it seems every dude's trying to get "hench". Some for self-esteem and some for the ladies. I returned to the gym this week after a 7-month hiatus and it was packed with young dudes trying REAL hard on those bench presses and bicep curls, made me laugh. That was me once, but the only difference was I wasnt trying to draw attention or trying to impress anyone, I just needed to get big. My ass was too slim for my liking, I needed to build up for a little self-esteem. Back to the point! Now Im happy to see some of the youngsters having a focus a few days of the week by being at the gym but please be doing it for the right reasons. Please! dont do it just to draw a girl's attention, if she didnt like you first time around she's not worth it. Please! dont do it just so you can buy a top a size smaller and end up cutting the blood circulation to your body. Please! dont do it as a form of intimidation "the bigger they are, the harder they fall". Lol I guess what I'm really tryna say, is free some damn space on the machines so I can get on them, I havent got time to watch 5 dudes taking turns on one machine doing mediocre sets. Do some push-ups and call it a day!!

Midnight Snacks

I dont even know why Im blogging this but it's been on my mind for the last 5 hours. I've got a craving for two slices of strawberry cheesecake. I used to pick up a two piece every other night at Uni but since I've graduated for some reason the urge went. That was right up until 5 hours ago. Im at the CEOs meeting for pbleepd (We're going national baby...one step at a time) and one of them decides to bring out two slices of cheesecake they got from Burger King (didnt even know they had them). We have a problem, two slices...three people....everyone's hungry. I got the short end of the stick because I didnt ask for food when I came in so I had to watch them purposely make "mmm" noises in front of me while eating. Clowns, I know one of them's lactose intolerant too!! Nonetheless I need to get some cheesecake, Im heading off to the 24 hour Tescos!!.

Do y'all like Strawberry Cheesecake? Yes/No?

When Will I Get Married?

Woke up today to a text; you know when you get a text half-asleep and you read it, acknowledge it for 2 secs then go back to sleep? Did that but then I processed the words from the text in my head and got up quickly!!

"T is getting MARRIED in September. So keep that month free"

Shock and happiness went hand in hand as I stretched and yawned. Happiness at one of my closest friend's finally finding the woman of his dreams and the shock at having to eventually spend money on yet another suit (the credit is crunching, the credit is munching). While sending a congratulatory message to T, I honed in on the scenario: "2 down, 3 to go". Each year since 2006 a close acquaintance of mine outside of family has gotten married and I think to myself "damn! who's next?". The truth is, it could be me. Back in sixth-form/college we all used to joke about who would get married first to last and I was always the third one chosen out of the five of us. We make these predictions out of jest but judging by the three of us that are left, its bound to be me next lol (right Mas?). 6 to 7 years on and now the sudden realisation of T's engagement means 2 out of the five of us will be happily married by the end of 2009 (T and darkman). Just like at darkman's reception, I know that T's ceremony is gonna have me thinking about what life has in store.

We're approaching our mid-twenties (still young right?) fast and although life has so much in store and doesn't promise any guarantees I cant help but think my time is coming. We're all settling or at least trying to settle down now and it's a surreal but beautiful thing to see how everyone's matured over the years. I've seen and experienced alot of marriages breakdown and crumble but it's made my belief even stronger that mine with time, perserverance and love will work. Im not saying Im getting married in 2010, uh uh unlikely (I'll leave that year to Muffin lol) but I know God has planned it well for me. Lets put a date on it just because; Broadband will be married at the age of 28 on his wife's birthday. Location and Song to be decided. That gives me 5 years....

Head Vs Heart (Thought Of The Day)

Challenges and Obstacles are part and parcel of life experiences yet whether we have battles over religion, relationships or recreational activity the one constant choice that creeps up on different stages of personal growth is our head versus our hearts. Time after time we're stuck for choice between the conscious conflicts of our thoughts and the eternal intagibility of our souls. But why? Surely one cant work without the other, or else there are doubts. If you follow your head you are denying your heart's intent and if you follow your heart your are lying to the mind patterns. Its the worst feeling right? But are we reading too much into the thought of head vs heart? Can we bridge the gap?

Regardless of what we may think there is a right choice and a wrong choice; and seperating our choices into head and heart means we are setting ourselves up for an inevitable down fall. The battle isnt necessarily between head and heart, it's between right and wrong. Whether we choose to be naive of what's right is obviously up to one's self but know that choosing the wrong choice in full recognition of it will result in consequences on both the head and the heart.

"Again and again, the impossible problem is solved when we see that the problem is only a tough decision waiting to be made"

Poetry Throwback

Wrote this one at the end of Summer in 2007. Very touchy and sensitive one but nonetheless a relevant subject!

Multi-Syllable Criminal

Description:
6'8 mixed race; Police have distaste for his face, he's labelled a mixed-race shit face, whose morals are misplaced and a disgrace to his race, they vow to handle his case and put him in his place

I wouldn't take this from these racists but lets face it, the guy's a rapist who takes kids, strangles them with laces and covers their faces with traces of.........can't even explain it.

Their aim? to find him and blind him on sighting but only with good timing will they peak into the dark behind him and find his light skin, for he'll be fighting and might swing like a viking but with every cloud comes a silver.....

With patience they catch him, eyes laden, his caucasian "patient" cries with tears so blatant, yet this half asian and half bajan's face remains so vacant

In the car he doesn't speak, words of his musn't reach his mouth for another speech, so he turns the other cheek and only utters sleep

At the station he sits there in his chair, poor skin scare with nits in his hair, he has this stare like he's been here, almost like he's lived here, the interrogators promise to handle him with care but are they sincere?

They offer him no redemption as question after question they they mention the acts on a gent's son performed by this rank scum! and as the time lengthens the theories strengthen and it becomes clear he's in contention for a life with no pension

Speaking to himself he sighs "These eyes breathe life, for behind me lies a disguise that these guys couldnt see twice, they strong but me shy, them tired but me fine, in the meantime I will define the deep crime that me finds so divine" he then describes in three lines, each crime

Its to difficult to describe the visuals this individual spoke of and ridiculed, the description is nothing miniscule and far from biblical, his use of things digital and the emphasis of the physical makes this guy from Liverpool's story most pro-criminal

Its that smirk he has, so senile, he smiles while he freestyles on every child he's abused in the space of three miles, meanwhile the interrogators look into key files

They shake their heads in disgust as they continue to discuss his lust for kids, plus his mistrust for the non-peadophilia in us...as a people. He says kids trust his love, this must be insanity

The officers dont want to hear no more, no encore, they beat him so raw he falls flat on the cold floor. They go for the low core so sure he wont be able to abuse no more, doctors will find no cure. The triggered reaction by officers with a family of four.

They hope to throw him in jail with males who treat him like she-males so he wont prevail. Do I need to explain in detail? In scale this fails to be a cure for all those greived males and motherly females in conditions hard to entail. He laughs "any chance of free bail?"

He stands parallel with the jury, who are truly honoured to have the duty of condemning the moody man with pleasures so unruly. His final words to the jury are to see things loosely "every kids a ruby, prove me wrong". Words are hardly moving

Jury Speaks: The verdict is a guilty, a man so filthy we feel should be banned from these streets
Judge Speaks: Indeed, despite his pleads he needs a sentence of a decree that mirrors punishment for murder in the first degree
He Speaks: Kill Me? We'll See! Fill these arteries with pills please, watch me bleed and we'll see if Im the only one who warrants the word guilty!

He sits there in his chair, poor skin scare with nits in his hair, he has this stare like he's been here, almost like he's lived here. The two officers handle him with care and prepare to inject him with their thick pair of syringes. But is this fair? Do we dare to, or have the right to kill and cause more despair? It is clear he has no heart in there but again is this fair? However can they take a risk here and give him slim years and then place him on a list where it states "He lives here" leaving kids scared?......it's weird......He sits there with fear, there's a sudden gust of brisk air and he shares his final words so sincere "Are there any kids here?"

Scriptwriter Chronicles: MEN ON THE ROAD (Part 17)

Part 17 - Miscommunication Part II

up their phones!?! Any luck with Julian, Sebastian?

Sebastian
Ringing but still no answer Sebastian sends a text to Jane "I miss you too"

Gerald
This is too crazy. Michelle aint answering either

Ritchie
This situation makes you think. Julian will be fine, they probably wanted a getaway car, once they are off the motorway it will be cool. Nadine? Nadine looks at Ritchie defensively this is an awkward time to say it but, I really like y... Gerald gets through to Julian

Gerald
Julian!! you ok?....where are you?

Back at Jane's house, Jane receives the text.....

Michelle
No phones Jane! thats the rules, girls weekend only! snatches phone

Jane (laughing)

I just wanted to see, boo you! Jane goes back into "send message" and types "I miss you more" Michelle oversees

Michelle
Woo...and who's that too?

Jane
Erm...Julian she adds Julian's name and sends the text, Michelle smiles and takes her phone and swtches it off. Jane ponders. Natalie's phone vibrates...

Natalie
Hello?...Hey Kim, yeah I'll give you the address one sec, Hey Jane my friend Kim's on her way, man problems too!!

Julian sits on the bonnet of his car shaking his head until he receives the text from Jane. His eyes light up and he contemplates. David suddenly drives up to him, they all come out the car and embrace him

Nadine
So them guys just left? how? I dont understand

Julian
Lets just say there was a mix-up. Listen guys after what's just happened I feel like it's a sign for me to go home
he looks at the text from Jane Yeah I'm going home to my wife.....

Friday Means Throwback!

This is why I love Hip-Hop because there was a story to tell, the messages were real. The 90's was taking Hip-Hop in an exciting and new direction with better concepts, better beats, better videos and the world was beginning to recognise the power of it's genre. Some of the nonsense we hear now is almost wiping away the memory but I cant let it happen. Here's a classic video and track from the 90's; the clip where they nod their heads in unison is classic!

Here Today, Goon Tomorrow (Thought Of The Day)

What is Going On!?! Is it just me or is every adolescent between the ages of 13 and 25 (sometimes even older) trying to go on "gangster"? London, UK, The World is an eclectic range of races and languages yet they all seem to be affected by this one but proportional culture, The Goon Effect. Now I'm not here to blame anything or anyone for this rise in Goonism after all life is about choices and no matter what kind of peer pressure there is, you have a choice Yes or No. The Yes has taken effect and each year the number of crimes surrounding Goonish behaviour continues to rise; I can imagine the crime rate charts read like a continuing vertical or diagonal line, never dipping once. And for what!? An akward stare? Someone stepped on your trainers? Someone took London Transport in your area? Someone dresses differently from you? Someone is misusing the money you earned illegally?. All these "disrespect" incidents are in itself disrespectful to the term respect. I'm sure respect is earned rather demanded...maybe thats just me.

I guess I'm not too worried about the elders because really and truly they are a lost cause (negative thinking but oh well), its the youngers Im worried about. Their generation is in dire need of attention right now because they are ending lives without caring about its significance. Im still tryna figure out how to be so heartless, that must be one messed up feeling. It all starts from the basics though, from the jeans/tracksuit bottoms riding low (That is not swagger, that is oh so swag) to the music playing from their mobile phones (the tunes they play are whack aswell, get some damn headphones) it's those small levels that lead up to bigger levels of disrespect. It's a shame there aren't enough creative and inspirational ideas to get the youngers off the streets and thinking with a level-head but speaking to a friend a couple nights ago there are at least those willing to give a helping hand. Are we as elders gonna help them or are we gonna sit and watch the peer pressure get to them? And to the elders that are involved in this unnecessary madness, do you really want your kids and future generations to be caught up in this?

As I've pointed out in articles on the pbleepd website, blogs on here and the pbleepd blog I'm always watching TV. If it's not a sitcom, it's a documentary, if it's not a movie then it's 24 (best show ever). Every now and again between parts I'm able to be captured by a stand-out advert. It seems with the pervasive influence of the internet, companies have been forced into making more creative adverts to attract viewers to telelvision. There's the simplistic yet somehow amazing Cadbury's advert, the inspiring if not eye-opening condom ads, those intriguing and close enough porn Marks and Spencers Food Adverts and the new Virgin Atlantic advert picked up on by Ondo Lady. Now we have the uplifting and smartly created new T-Mobile advert. The idea to do a live filming of random dancers at the London Liverpool Street Station this past Monday Morning was a risk that worked well; and through one great-take the company was able to show the advert the very next day, all this week it's been the talk of TV (behind a certain president elect). It's corny at best but I for one wouldnt have minded pitching that idea to a few companies, after all it probably cost less than you'd think. Enjoy!

Father Figure (Thought Of The Day)

I Figure a Father Figure is one who does more than bring home Further Figures. In Fact A Father Figure is A Figure of speech; for fathers unlike our forefathers have the power of four fathers and so are more than just one figure.

I Figure a Father Figure is determined by the two definitions of an Action Figure. He can be a figure of action who acts on heart and mind alike. Or he can be an action figure....just a still sculpture of material that does nothing but lie or stay still, no heart and no mind.

I Figure a Father Figure who doesnt Figure as a Father gives his child two choices. They can have a reaction which works two ways but usually ends up the worse way; gangs, guns, drugs, negativity. OR they can have a re-action; rebuild and take action, constructing a life that figures more useful than their father could imagine.

I Figure a Father Figure is a Father that Figured.

Inauguration, Interrogation, Implications, Indication

So...in 2 hours America and the world will officially have their first african-american president and make a piece of history that may never be emulated in cultural significance again. Indeed the slogan "CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN" has been a motivator for people around the world but are our beliefs overshadowing the difficult tasks ahead?

Last night as I sat in the living room eating my native food (hot! hot! fufu) my family's eyes were firmly locked on Fox News which was a shock in itself as Fox Media are well known to be opposers of Barack Obama. Sipping on Evian I observed as they were interviewing a political powerhouse who had some interesting words for the inauguration of Obama. He suggested that the nation may be putting too much pressure and extending the already high expectations on Obama as being the "saviour of the world"; therefore the only way for Barack was downhill. I was almost ready to respect his suggestion until he compared Barack's run to George W. Bush's. Obviously putting too much sugar in his tea, the man claimed that unlike Barack, Bush had many doubters at the beginning but was able to turn the nation's views of him around in his 8 years in charge.

....right because 70% of the nation stating Bush failed is an indication of that?

What I will agree with is that the expectations are extended to a point that many americans are blinded by the moment and havent disected the magnitude of the challenges Obama must face. Catapulted into a volatile situation, Obama must address the Economic Crisis, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the residential, educational and social-economical needs of the country as well as the MANY who I feel will strive to bring him down around him. For Barack to handle these issues he'll need two integral forces of nature, Support and Time. 4 years is enough time to build growth but more time will be needed to maintain it. This is where I hope he will still have the same support as questions will be asked; expectations are sometimes a burden.

They are a burden to the point where a woman stated that now that Barack is president she wont need to pay her bills and mortgages (silly). It was even more worrying that she was black; ah yes, the black element. We know how significant this moment in history is and I'm proud to have been alive to see this moment and even prouder that black people as well as all people have been brought together by this occassion. Yet we musnt forget the wider perspective.

We musn't forget that this moment isn't a time for ignorance but a time for inspiration. Black people must take this with a smile and a stride in their step without forgetting that Obama is indeed mixed-race, half white. Embracing his skin-tone means you must embrace his heritage and embrace the aspect of unity amogst all. Generations of struggle over equality are pre-dominantly over.

This being said I am jealous of Americans right now, especially those in DC who are going to have one hell of a time despite the weather. Obama is a brilliant orator, one who has gained much respect from myself and if we are to go by what we have seen so far, his collectiveness and vision coupled with support and time will make him one of the most influential and important leaders of all time.

Love Rained Down On Me

Morning,

You ever have those days where you wake up and you're happy for no particular reason? Im having one of those moments right now and I've had a little time to reflect on the past weekend events. This weekend I witnessed various elements of L.O.V.E. Sentimental as it may seem I couldnt brush off the feeling of happiness as I saw different levels of love manifest itself on a bigger screen (life). It opened my eyes to alot and although I've always remained positive and had that love inside, this weekend was a little reminder of how privileged I am even in doubt. So I Broadband endorse this greater issue we call Love. Love For/From your family, Love For/From your friends, Love For/From your partner, Love For/From God and most notably Love For Yourself. Mrs Broadband, Im coming. Be Easy!

Julian
That's wonderful! I did a module for Business. It was called None of Ya! Ritchie laughs until Nadine looks at him

Natalie

Kim

Michelle
That's what happens in winter, make-ups and break-ups. Yet despite the cold season the sun's out....Metaphorical.

Natalie
Hmm, Evelyn needs to hurry up.

Across the road Evelyn has been told part of the secret by the Boy (Joshua)....

Evelyn
Are you serious?

Joshua
Yeah I saw them! I know I shouldnt be looking but I wanted to test out my new gadget. Anyway he jogged to the car but he dropped the packet of...

Joshua

Evelyn
Ok Ok Im coming.

Julian
